A New 'Rapid Onset' THC-Infused Michelada Promises to Hit You in Ten Minutes - L.A. TACO

The chile-rimmed Styrofoam cup you see before you have the power to change the future. A new dawn in which revelers can get stoned, buzzed, and obliterate heat waves with a single stone.

Because deep down inside it, you’ll find a packet of “Mota Mix,” a powdered michelada blend containing 20mg of rapid-onset THC just begging to mingle with the liquid of your choosing.

The product is made by Mari y Juana, a cannabis beverage brand whose tagline is “Made in California of Mexican Descent.” The company recently won first place in the 2022 High Times Cannabis Cup “People’s Choice” for its range of herb-infused, bottled soft drinks, with flavors including tamarindo and piña. And labels that look like they could have been forged by the daughters of the Grupo Modelo Revolution.

Mari y Juana’s sodas are made with organic cane sugar and Vertosa-emulsified THC and are available at numerous Southern California cannabis dispensaries, as is the michelada.

“Mota Mix” is not the first mota-infused michelada mix our newsroom has seen in its many years of abuse. Still, its widespread availability has us excited for the mind-expansive, pain-of-life-numbing implications of having this in our lives.

Normally, anyone inclined to merge cannabis and ethanol into one crossfading whole will have to drop an ounce or two of their preferred spirit into a pre-bottled THC beverage. A few shots of Tequila blanco in a 16oz. bottle of weed lemonade and you’ve got a cool, refreshing treat we like to call “rocket fuel,” cause baby, it’ll be a pleasant minute before touchdown brings you round again.

With Mota Mix, the whole point (as we see it) is to easily combine the THC chile-powder with booze in one convenient cup of Michelada you can then carry around all day like you’re Lil’ Wayne or something.

The recipe options are ostensibly endless. You can blend it with real beer for the taste of a traditional miche. Or mix in one of the brand’s own infused sodas for heightened potency. If you just want to get high, pour in an O’Douls, if you must. And if you really want to blast off, throw in a little mezcal and some lager for something like this “Mayan Michelada.”

There’s loose talk that the kind of heat wave we’ve just endured could be coming back at the end of the month. If an icy cold, weed-infused michelada isn’t the cure for global warming we need at this time, at least it may keep you cool for a minute.

While briefly helping you ditch the kind of peaked anxiety, only the burning hellscape of a questionably survivable future portends to enjoy the bliss of our brave new world.
